Henrico County Regional Jail East Custody

Henrico County Regional Jail East is operated by the Henrico County Sheriff's Office under a regional agreement with Goochland, Henrico, and New Kent counties. It is physically in Barhamsville in New Kent County, but it is part of Henrico's inmate population system because Henrico operates it and uses it for regional jail custody. The distinction is important for people who search only by county borders. A Henrico inmate can be held at Jail East even though the jail address is outside Henrico County.

Henrico's FY27 approved Sheriff budget lists Jail East capacity as 526 inmates. The local budget and the state capacity report serve different reporting purposes, so the figures should be kept with their source names.

Jail East is one of two jail facilities that make up Henrico's local detention footprint. The combined FY27 budget capacity for Jail West and Jail East is 1,047 inmates, while the state operational-capacity figures are higher when the two jails are combined. Henrico County Regional Jail East Mail and Money

Jail East has its own inmate mail format. The county mail page says mail is scanned for contraband, delivered within 24 hours after receipt, and normally received during weekday daytime mail hours except weekends and holidays. The rules also bar greeting cards, inappropriate photos, cigarettes, lighters, matches, drugs, and personal checks. Newspapers, magazines, and books must come directly from the publishing house, not from second- or third-party vendors.

Money deposits for Jail East use the same county-wide inmate funds rules as Jail West. The county lists in-person kiosk deposits, online deposits through Access Corrections, phone deposits, app deposits, and mailed certified checks or money orders. Henrico County Regional Jail East Custody Types

Jail East is a local and regional jail, not a VADOC prison and not a federal or ICE detention center. That means the Henrico Sheriff's roster is the first lookup for a person held there.
